about

The 2-time Grammy nominated group Los Cojolites is a young Son Jarocho band that is a major part of the resurrection of this vital Mexican folk tradition that combines indigenous, African and Spanish elements. Their music combines youthful energy and a spirit of joyous improvisation based on the traditional forms and poetry. Their music has been featured in the film “Frida” and they have collaborated with many diverse groups in fusion projects with artists such as Rage Against the Machine’s Zach de la Rocha, Lila Downs and Afro Peruvian diva Susana Baca.

This album is a return to their traditional roots as they revisit the classic repertoire of the Son Jarocho bringing their own flavor to the classics. This was recorded in San Francisco the day after their visit to the Grammys and captures the euphoria and joy they experienced as they walked the red carpet. They traveled from their rural Southern Veracruz home town of Jaltipan to Hollywood and their visit to the U.S. inspired them to create new versions of the songs they learned as children. The production team of Greg Landau, Camilo Landau and John Greenham worked with them for the third time bringing together a fresh and vibrant sound.
